This Day in History: 1946-08-10
This week Nelson purchased a home in Hancock Park at 155 S. Hudson. His fans in the know were puzzled why he was moving so close in to Hollywood rather than being on the west side of LA, always being only a few miles away from Jeanette. They did not realize he was in a bad mental state and basically suffered a breakdown at the news of Jeanette’s latest pregnancy and miscarriage, which she finally revealed to him after the fact while still in the UK. That their relationship had broken down to this level stunned Nelson and when Jeanette returned to Los Angeles, the doctor warned her that Nelson had to be handled very carefully or “we may have him in a sanitarium for a year.”
