This Day in History: 1949-01-10

After Nelson and Ann, Jeanette and Gene, and Nelson’s Hancock Park neighbors – the Z. Wayne Griffins – celebrate New Year’s Eve staying at Thunderbird Ranch (near Palm Springs), Nelson and Jeanette and their spouses attend a party at the Griffin’s home. Jeanette’s yellow Buick is parked at Nelson’s house. The next day she flies to San Francisco for an upcoming concert and a quick overnight Lake Tahoe visit with Nelson (their last documented trip that we know of). Friends in the know fear that Jeanette in particular is unraveling with the stress of this prolonged, duplicitous lifestyle.
