Today in J/N History

1939 Three days after his marriage to Ann Franklin, Nelson does his normal "Chase & Sanborn" radio show. But it is awkward, the attempt to congratulate him by ushering him to the microphone with wedding music falls flat, Nelson is aloof and businesslike in the banter and the subject is quickly dropped. Singing "Little Grey Home in the West" (promoting "Sweethearts" which was still in movie theaters) must have been painful for him; the song is introduced without mentioning Jeanette's name or the film's name...and Nelson sings it like a funeral dirge.
