Jeanette MacDonald: A Pictorial Treasury – 50th Anniversary Special Edition
by Sharon Rich
ISBN: 978-1-7376812-4-3 (hardcover)
This is a replica of Sharon Rich’s first book, written in 1973 when she was nineteen. Noted as a beautiful “coffee table” sized book, it was the first published biography of MGM movie star and singer Jeanette MacDonald and the first to accurately state MacDonald’s correct birth date, along with a gentle hint that her relationship with her co-star Nelson Eddy was more than just friendship.
This 50th Anniversary Edition includes the original reproduced photo-filled book, plus features a new introduction and additional chapter in which Ms. Rich provides the fascinating background to the writing and publishing of this project which came about thanks to her friendship with MacDonald’s sister, actress Blossom Rock (‘Grandmama’ in the original TV series The Addams Family). Blossom asked the young writer to tell Jeanette’s story and provided information, people to interview, and photos from her personal collection.
The original book was a selection of the Movie/Entertainment Book Club, with Rich as the then youngest author to have that honor. In the years after, Sharon Rich became a noted film historian and author of several books including the best selling biography of both MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, Sweethearts.

Review from the original book: “Sharon Rich has triumphantly brought Jeanette MacDonald to life on paper and given the reader a true pictorial treasury.” – Barney Glazer, South Pasadena Review
