Description

Like new, near mint condition!

This book was published in 1992 and has been long out-of-print. It is the most complete reference book of Nelson’s radio shows, recording sessions, songs recorded, etc., all presented in chronological order with many photos included. It makes it easy to look up a song that Nelson sang and easily find the dates when he recorded it or sang it on the radio (sometimes frequently).

From the book description: “Nelson Eddy (1901-1967) is considered by many to be the greatest American baritone of this century. From the Metropolitan Opera to Hollywood, he was certainly the most popular, and his fame is assured through the legacy of his numerous recordings, radio programs, and films. This is a comprehensive study of Eddy’s career, covering commercial recordings issued from those performances on any medium. The identities of the musicians and their respective instruments have also been included, along with identities of all other performers involved. With a biographical sketch by Sharon Rich, extensive photos, bibliography, and indexes of 78 rpm records, LP records, compact discs, video recordings, motion pictures, film co-stars, conductors, and song titles.” From an online review: “No Nelson Eddy fan should live without this book: although it does contain some minor errors/omissions, it is a treasure trove of information on his career, particularly his long radio career, in which he was a popular, major star for many, many years…. The book shows the wide variety of musical styles he sang on radio and recordings (and television).”

Today in J/N History

1949 After Nelson and Ann, Jeanette and Gene, and Nelson's Hancock Park neighbors - the Z. Wayne Griffins - celebrate New Year's Eve staying at Thunderbird Ranch (near Palm Springs), Nelson and Jeanette and their spouses attend a party at the Griffin's home. Jeanette's yellow Buick is parked at Nelson's house. The next day she flies to San Francisco for an upcoming concert and a quick overnight Lake Tahoe visit with Nelson (their last documented trip that we know of). Friends in the know fear that Jeanette in particular is unraveling with the stress of this prolonged, duplicitous lifestyle.
