Description

New release! Journal #80 features an article about our history as a club, including adventures and challenges in trying to get Jeanette and Nelson’s story told. Also, extensive interview notes written up in 1981 are transcribed from Nelson’s friend and mentor, Sybil Thomas. Finally, this group was founded by Diane Goodrich. Many people were unaware  she had a personal relationship with Nelson during the second half of 1951, a time when he and Jeanette seemed permanently broken up. Excerpts from her unpublished memoirs provide insight into Nelson’s activities and mindset then. Every reference and sentence quoted from Nelson that had to do with Jeanette is reproduced in this lengthy article, along with the back story of Nelson’s startling personal plans with Diane that year, and why he later thought she had died. With all these articles, there’s a tremendous amount of information that has never been publicly discussed, and we’ve been getting rave reviews for this issue.

Today in J/N History

1939 Nelson marries Ann Franklin in Las Vegas, accompanied by his reluctant mother Isabel and Ann's friend Doris Kenyon. Kenyon was a silent film actress and also occasionally co-starred with Nelson in live opera in Los Angeles. Nelson by his own statement had been drinking and one newspaper clipping noted that he was halfway up the aisle before realizing that Doris not Ann was at his side.
