Description

Journal #78 features our Interview issue, with transcripts of the following: 1) an annotated, little-known 1959 interview with Jeanette, in which she speaks candidly on some different topics than other interviews, discussing friendships ranging from Jean Harlow to Woody Van Dyke; 2) the only known excerpt from Nelson’s interview with Tony Thomas; 3) the Blythe Kearney interview which includes a transcript of her edited video clip but also additional content from the 3-hour full interview. Blythe’s grandmother was a lifelong friend with Jeanette from their high school years onward, and Blythe spent time with Jeanette as a child. She also spent a day with both Jeanette and Nelson, who were staying together at the Princess Martha Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida. When Blythe was older, she had a discussion with Jeanette about her relationship with Nelson and how Gene Raymond dealt with it; 4) Terry Kilburn, the child star who played “Brother” in the movie Sweethearts. This issue has additional documentation and is photo-filled.

Today in J/N History

1944 Nelson writes the first draft of a movie treatment for himself and Jeanette entitled "Timothy Waits for Love." The plot somewhat resembles Mel Gibson's movie "Forever Young" (1992) in which the hero is cryogenically frozen and wakes up years later to be reunited with his lost love.
