Books

Unless otherwise noted, all books in this section are authored by Sharon Rich.

Sharon Rich is a prolific writer and editor whose work centers on the legendary 1930s singing duo Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. She has authored multiple books and contributed to over 80 magazines dedicated to their legacy. Two of her titles were selected by the Entertainment Book Club, and her landmark biography Sweethearts became the #1 bestseller at booksurge.com for four consecutive weeks, with Nelson Eddy: The Opera Years reaching #2 during the same period. Both books continue to appear on Amazon’s bestseller lists, often in the top 20, with Sweethearts occasionally ranking at #1 in its category.

Rich’s research is distinguished by her close personal connection to Jeanette’s older sister, Blossom Rock, and her access to rare archival materials—including private letters, Nelson Eddy’s scrapbooks, diary entries, FBI files, and Jeanette’s unpublished autobiography. Having interviewed hundreds of individuals and curated extensive documentation, Rich is widely regarded as the foremost authority on MacDonald and Eddy. In recognition of her contributions to history and literature, she was honored in 1995 with the title of Dame of Merit by the Knights of Malta.

1938 The final script for "Let Freedom Ring" was approved this week for filming. Originally this movie was scheduled for production in late 1935 co-starring Nelson and Jeanette as their follow-up to "Naughty Marietta". The 1938 script would obviously have removed any major duets and solo numbers for the female lead, since Virginia Bruce was now Nelson's co-star.
