Nelson Eddy – Two Christmas Shows
Screen Guild Broadcasts
1. “The Blue Bird”, December 24, 1939. Nelson is the host and narrator for young Shirley Temple’s radio debut. This is the complete show and at the end, Nelson and Shirley duet “Silent Night.” Also, during this live broadcast a mentally unbalanced woman stood up in the studio audience and aimed a gun at Shirley Temple. Amazingly, both she and Nelson had a “show must go on” attitude and after the police removed the woman, they continued the program without a hitch.
2. “The Juggler of Our Lady”, December 21, 1942. In 1940 Nelson first broadcast this show, then titled “The Juggler of Notre Dame.” It was so popular that there were requests for him to do the show again each Christmas. This is the 1942 version (with the English rather than French title).
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
