We get letters…re: Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy holiday mp3s

UPDATE: The links on the Holiday songs wasn’t working before…it is now, you can download the Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy mp3s here.

Thank you for sending the links to the MacDonald/Eddy Holiday music.  I NEVER get tired of listening
to them.  They were my very first album I bought with earned money from doing ironing back in 1978.  I would play their album on my stereo and do housework for my mother.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.

And again, I loved reading your book.  I never had a clue they were lovers until then, but I kind of suspected it.

Sincerely,
Karen Ritter

Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy Holiday Blowout Sale! This week only!

To celebrate the holiday season, this week we’re having a special sale on almost everything in our store! But order today because we will run out of some items!

10% off all books by Sharon Rich
25% off CDs and DVDs
50% off all single magazines
$100 off the Nelson and Jeanette scupltures (these take about 3 weeks to arrive as they are made up custom when you order them).

The single magazines are very low in stock for the older issues, such as Issues #50 through #61. A few of them are nearly sold out – we have less than 5 copies left! So grab them now while you still can! (Note: the shopping cart will show you if a magazine has completely sold out, and will only let you order if it’s still in stock.)

HOLIDAY SHIPPING

If we still have the items in stock, we will ship same day through the rest of this week. (Or we will send a partial order and let you know when the back-ordered item will be shipped.) All orders placed in the United States through 5 pm Eastern on Friday, December 19, will be sent priority mail as normal and should reach you before Christmas.

If you want to make certain you receive it in time – or for any orders placed after Friday, December 19, you must pay Express Mail rates to ensure holiday delivery. Make sure to check off the Express Mail option with your order.

For orders outside of the United States, you must pay Express Mail rates to receive your package before Christmas, although our postal system will not guarantee it.

Don’t forget that we can drop-ship an order with a gift card enclosed for you. Please note all the details in the “comments” section of your order, and make sure you let us know where to send the package.

If you absolutely must have the package by Christmas, there is the option of shipping FedEx which tends to be most reliable. However, it is much more expensive than the USPS, and we would have to charge you the actual shipping rates that we pay.

Even with Express Mail, the last day to order if you want guaranteed Christmas delivery is Saturday, December 20.

Happy Holidays!

Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy Cruise: Cabins still available!

UPDATE: We received some emails asking whether folks could still book for our upcoming Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald cruise! The answer is: yes!

For details and room rates, please call Hallie Neill at 212-874-1670 or email her at highctravel@yahoo.com.

Again, here are the details of our Valentines Week 2009 Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy cruise.

This cruise is leaving from Miami and is a 7-day Western Caribbean trip. Featured events include screenings of their greatest movie hits “Naughty Marietta” (1935), “Rose Marie” (1936) and “Maytime” (1937), with a special sing-along screening for one film. Guest lecturer is Sharon Rich, author of the best selling book Sweethearts: The Timeless Love Affair On-Screen and Off Between Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. International opera singers Theodore Lambrinos and Hallie Neill will star in a live performance of “A Scandalous Affair,” the musical inspired by Rich’s book. Other scheduled guest speakers worked with or knew MacDonald or Eddy, including author K.T. Ernshaw, one of Eddy’s longtime girlfriends. Health permitting, she has agreed to get “up close and personal” about Eddy, MacDonald, and separating fact from fiction regarding their personal lives. You can read more about Ms. Ernshaw here. D.C. impresario Darryl Winston will host a talent night for all singers, with pianist Raymond Hughes (Metropolitan Opera) accompanying. It’s a week filled with nostalgia, fabulous music, fabulous films, classic movie history and the inside skinny about one of Hollywood’s greatest cover-ups! “No matter where I’ve lectured, from London to Toronto to Los Angeles or AFI East Coast, people always ask about the celebrity gossip,” says Sharon Rich. “The most commonly asked question is: If MacDonald and Eddy were so much in love, why didn’t they marry each other?”

Here is the schedule of events as we have it now (subject to change):

Feb 8 (Sun) Hospitality Desk 2:00 – 4:00 on the Lido deck in front of the glass elevators, 9th floor, for meet and greet, goodie bags and ID’s.

We will set up another short meeting for everyone after dinner to coordinate the week’s events. Those  wanting to sing on talent night will meet with Darryl Winston to help put together the talent show program and schedule rehearsal time.

Feb 9 (Mon) Lecture/Film 10:00 to 1:00 in the London Room. Film: Naughty Marietta. Sharon Rich will speak and answer questions.

Monday night is the Captain’s Formal Night – -all are invited.

Feb 10 (Tues) Cozumel

Feb 11 (Wed) Grand Cayman

Feb 12 (Thurs) Lecture/Film 10:00 am – 1:00 in the London Dining Room. Movie clips, special short subjects and filmed interviews will be screened. Guest speakers are Sharon Rich and K.T. Ernshaw, close confidante of Nelson Eddy. This is also the time for folks to share scrapbooks or memorabilia and tell personal stories.

A SCANDALOUS AFFAIR show is 4:00 – 6:00 pm in the Club Rio Lounge (this event is open to the public). Book and CD signing/sale is in the Venzia Lounge 8:00-10:00 pm.

Feb 13 (Fri) Ocho Rios

Feb 14 (Sat) Lecture/Film 10:00 – 1:00 in the London Room. Film: Maytime.

Talent Night/Sing-a-long screening of Rose Marie at 8:00 – 11:00pm.

Dinners for the group are set for 6:00 PM each night.

If you need holiday gifts for yourself or others, note that that back issue journals will be 50% off, CDs will be 25% off, etc., etc. Everything is on sale!

Join us for some holiday cheer! Details:

Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy luncheon/book signing Sunday Dec 7, Studio City, CA

Attention Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy fans!

Just a reminder that we will be holding our annual Holiday Bash meeting in Studio City on Sunday, December 7 at 12 noon – and it will be our last time at the famed Sportsmans’ Lodge Restaurant (located at the corner of Ventura Blvd and Coldwater Canyon; Coldwater Canyon exit off the 101 freeway). The restaurant lost its lease and is closing at the end of this year.

Nelson Eddy, Clark Gable and other movie stars from Hollywood’s Golden Years enjoyed eating at this restaurant, because they could fish trout from the pond and have it cooked fresh for them.

Author Sharon Rich  will be signing books – titles include Sweethearts, the Timeless Love Affair On-Screen and Off Between Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, Jeanette MacDonald Autobiography: The Lost Manuscript, Nelson Eddy: The Opera Years, Jeanette MacDonald: The Irving Stone Letters (Irving Stone was Jeanette’s boyfriend in 1927-8 so these are mostly original love letters handwritten by her), and The Rosary, a 1911 best seller novel that was once planned for a movie vehicle with MacDonald and Eddy.

Author K.T. Ernshaw will also attend. She will sign her book To Love Again, a novel in which her main character is based on the Nelson Eddy she knew. Ms. Ernshaw is one of the few women still with us that knew firsthand what was going on with Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, since she was a part of the story herself!

The afternoon also includes lunch, film clips and a memorabilia sale.

Here’s more details about the event – you can still purchase tickets online or you can just pay at the door.

Spread the word to other Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy fans, ok? It’s short notice but since my husband’s health has turned around for the better, I’m listening to the requests of the New York area folks and putting together a Holiday Meeting for you on December 14! It’s very close to Penn Station so those of you from outside the city can easily get to it by train or bus.

To pull this off, you must get advance tickets so that I can plan correctly for the room layout and also the amount of food needed.

We’ll show some video clips that I’m sure you haven’t seen before, there’ll be a gift for everyone. Also, everything will be on sale since we don’t have to ship items. You can pick up the new calendars, CDs, books and other goodies that we don’t offer in the catalog.

Please reserve here at this link TODAY.
